Bright Future Begin Lead-Free

The LeadSafeCNY Coalition is a community-led effort to build healthier, lead-free homes and neighborhoods across Central New York.

 Who We Are?

The LeadSafeCNY Coalition brings together families, community leaders, and organizations to eliminate lead poisoning and environmental health hazards in Central New York. Together, we focus on four core areas:

  • Housing: Safe, healthy homes for every family.

  • Health: Access to testing, treatment, and prevention.

  • Education: Empowering parents and communities with knowledge.

  • Workforce: Building skills and training for a lead-free future.

Our Staff

April is National Healthy Homes Month

Note: Beginning in 2024, National Healthy Homes Month moved from June to April.

April marks National Healthy Homes Month (NHHM), a time to raise awareness, share knowledge, and inspire action to create safer, healthier living environments for all. This annual observance highlights the importance of addressing home-based health hazards and strengthening partnerships that support healthier communities.

In past years, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and its federal partners have emphasized the value of testing homes and individuals, connecting residents to resources that help identify and fix hazards, and investing in improved housing quality. These efforts continue to guide collective action and community engagement.

This year, our partners at the National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition (NSHHC) have selected the theme:
“Healthy Homes for Everyone: Practical Actions. Shared Solutions. Lasting Impact.”
This theme was chosen through member-driven voting in December 2025 and February 2026.

The 2026 theme reflects a shared commitment to ensuring safe and healthy homes for all. It emphasizes that meaningful, practical solutions, when implemented collaboratively, can lead to lasting benefits, including improved health outcomes, stronger economic stability, better educational opportunities, and greater climate and energy resilience. At its core, the message is clear: everyone deserves a healthy home, no matter where they live.

Did You Know?

Lead exposure often has no symptoms, but testing can protect your child.

Don’t forget to ask your doctor:

Has my child been tested for lead? When should my child be tested? What are our next steps?
